What to Expect – Newborn Session

newborn photography lakewood, co

How we keep baby asleep…

  • First thing’s first. The studio will be kept at 80 degrees (holy cow warm right). This allows baby to stay in a nice deep sleep and allows skin to stay nice and creamy. When babies get chilly their blood flows faster to warm it up and you will see purple veins showing on their skin. Go ahead and look. I knew you would. Now you know if you see this, baby is chilly. Your welcome. Wish I had this information with my first kiddo!

Is it safe…

  • I will be handling your baby to create beautiful poses. I use safe techniques of positioning your newborn and will make sure baby is comfortable and relaxed. I receive all the required vaccinations for and each year receive the whooping cough vaccine. My hands will be washed as well as the studio Lysoled. I’m a bit of a freak about cleanliness and sanitation.

Do I need to bring anything…

  • During your consultation, we will discuss available props, colors, and everything we will use to create your custom session. If you have anything in particular you wish to incorporate in the session, please let me know before hand so we can create a nice flow and include them.

When should I schedule my newborn’s session…

  • The best time to schedule your session is during your pregnancy. Put it right along side of packing for the hospital and reading your books. We schedule around your due date and adjust when the time comes. The ideal time to photograph your newborn is between 5 and 14 days of life. Brand new babies bodies are still nice and flexible. allowing them to be comfortable in positions showing off their tiny features. I strongly encourage reading my blog post about newborns and positions. Not every baby will do every position.

How long will the session take…

  • Please allow 1 to 3 hours for your session. There will be lots of time for cuddle time with Mom and Dad. Please allow for a bit off schedule routine for your baby during the session. We may be feeding more than normal to keep baby comfortable as there will be more handling than baby is used to.

What if baby makes a mess…

  • I am going to let you know right now. Your baby will expel bodily fluids during the session. IT IS OK! You are not the first parent to be embarrassed and I always have a change of clothes with me. It will happen, I love my work and it is part of it. Remember how I said I am a bit of a freak about sanitation. This is part of it. Everything of mine is cleaned after every session in ALL Free and Clear detergent.

If you have any questions at all, please let me know. I am happy to answer any concerns you may have.
